Bolton's Office Hours

[Want to chat with Bolton privately? Here is where you do it! Bolton's office hours will be held in conference room B in the library for approximately four hours in the morning several days a week. During that time the blinds will be drawn and that room will be off-limits unless you're there to talk to Bolton, though the other three study rooms will still be available for use.

I don't see why not! [dusts her hands off] Keeping spirits up is the best we can do, right? At least most of us thought so. So we all started painting and putting up signs! It sounds like you've been busy too, though.

[theoverseers]

[Bolton turns his wrist toward the door so that the PIP on his right arm can open it, and then holds the door open with his foot for her to follow him in.]

We've been getting by. You know, I caught Togami the other day painting a little flower on his door, too. I can't believe you guys even got him in on the beautification project.

[He says with a chuckle. Man, Togami's an asshat.]

I'm surprised, considering he was such a jerk when I was drawing my big sun and mountain full of flowers on my door! Maybe he's finally getting a little better.

[She follows Bolton in with a smile and stands to the side.]

Or maybe he just got tired of being the only one not doing anything fun.

[Yeah, the Doctor's just letting himself in again.]

Technical difficulties, is that still the official story?

[theoverseers]

[When Bolton's inside, he sets the tray down on the table and plugs the kettle into the wall, letting the water heat up while he scoops fragrant, earthy coffee grounds into the french press.]

That's probably it.

[He turns and sees her still standing in the corner.]

Go ahead and have a seat - it'll be about five minutes on the coffee. You can use your PIP to lock the door, if you want.

[Bolton yawns. Yeah, it's too early for this.]

Tech support these days, am I right? Didn't even send us a free CD-ROM as an apology.

[He's being sarcastic.]

You people still use CDs? I thought everyone'd moved to direct downloads now.

[Do you really want to get into a sarcasm contest with the Doctor, Bolton. Do you.]

Sounds like this little Overseer gig isn't quite what it's cracked up to be. Crummy tech support and, from what I've seen, frankly appalling health coverage.

[He's going somewhere with this, if Bolton can pick up on it.]

Is it too much to ask for a new album or a movie every now and again?

[Bolton narrows his eyes a little, then gestures at the electric kettle and small metal tin of tea on the tray.]

You sound like you've got something to say. Want to have a seat?

Bit of something, yeah.

[He'll take a seat, sure. Fun as it might be, he's not here to antagonize Bolton. Not completely.]

So, just hypothetically speaking. Say you had some kinda growth on your arm or something.

[It's a risk speaking even this plainly, but what are they gonna do. Kill him?]

Seems like something you should get looked at. Might be fatal, leaving it.

[Bolton's eyes dart to his right arm, and the sleek tablet that peeks out from the specially-tailored sleeve of his royal blue shirt. Then he folds his arms on the table and leans forward.]

Mm, I know the UK's had single-payer for a long-ass time, but don't forget some of us face pretty steep premiums if we want to go to the doctor.

[Natsuhi's knocking on your door again. This time there's no hesitation, though she has gone back to wearing her bed sheet cape again.]

[She's just going to sit down this time.]

That announcement during the party, is it a real threat?

[theoverseers]

[Bolton's gaze flits to the tablet embedded in his own right arm.]

It didn't come from either one of us. We're not sure how they're going to spread the word in everyone's homes, but... They definitely have the power to tell everyone here.

Who are they then? Is that another thing you can't tell us?

[She's scowling, but at least she seems calm?]

The Benefactors.

And are we going to meet them at any point?

Doubtful. I've never met them and I work for them.

Sure! [She locks the door and sits down.] Did you want to talk about anything? I should probably apologize for Kurumi-chan, but you know how she gets.

Why work for someone you've never met? Surely someone had to interview you or you had to speak to someone about working here.

[theoverseers]

Someone put a sign up at the job I was working at. "Want to explore space? Meet new people? Drive out into a corn field and lay down among the ears, and a ProbeCo executive will whisk you away in no time."

[He sips his coffee. His voice and expression are a perfect deadpan.]

...Kurumi? Why, what happened?

[He hasn't been great about checking the cameras today]

[She's dealt with too many teenage maids for that to get more than a glare.]

Are you saying that you were kidnapped as well?

Does this seem like the kind of job that accepts resumes or calls references?

[He's not too keen on giving a direct answer.]
