Bolton's Office Hours

[Want to chat with Bolton privately? Here is where you do it! Bolton's office hours will be held in conference room B in the library for approximately four hours in the morning several days a week. During that time the blinds will be drawn and that room will be off-limits unless you're there to talk to Bolton, though the other three study rooms will still be available for use.

[Bolton kind of "mm"s quietly, in a "so that's how it's going to be" kind of tone, taking another sip of coffee. When he lowers the cup again he smiles, though there's something hollow to it and not smug or cruel.]

You of everyone here has been around long enough to know that there's plenty of reasons someone would give that up, Doc.

[Note the complete lack of guilt. You won't reason with him - or annoy him - that easily.]

J had nothing to do with it. I had some help fact-checking the information, but the incentive was all my idea.

[Is he just protecting J? The idea does sound like it would be Bolton's idea of the two, but the other is still complicit in all of this...

There's a flicker of anger across his face. If only the rules didn't specify that one had to kill a Champion to escape. There he goes, B, thinking of breaking 6.

[After last week's episode with Jamie, Kurumi's sure of one thing. She probably should talk to Bolton now. She doesn't like the idea of cooperating with these Overseers but for the safety of the rest of the Champions, it probably was for the best.]

[Bolton sets down his cup of coffee. There's something sympathetic about the slow way he crosses the room.]

He gave me the heads up. Do you need some?

It probably wouldn't hurt. I... I just want to make sure. [If what happened during the trial, that brief blurring of her vision, was any indicator it probably wasn't safe to keep it to herself. At least keeping the disease down was something the Overseers seemed to want to do as well.]

Sure- yeah, okay.

[He offers her a slight, sympathetic smile.]

Wait here, I'll go grab a dose.

[Congratulations, Kurumi, you are now alone in the study room.]

[God that hurt to say--at least for now she'll just. Lean against the wall. Thankfully (?) she's not too curious at the moment. Besides, there's probably a camera or two in here...]

[Well, everything that Bolton brought in the room with him is there on the table in plain sight, anyway. There's a french press coffee brewer with a few coffee cups sitting on a tray (including the one he was drinking from when she came in), and a book.

Also he has to walk all the way back across the station, you might as well at least sit down.]

[She'll take a seat at least and look at the book. She's not much one for coffee but... What are our esteemed Overseers reading?]

[This one is currently reading The Dark Tower.]

[Steven King, then. She doesn't know the series but one of her club members did like him enough to try to read an untranslated version of The Stand. By the time Bolton comes back she's poured herself a little coffee even if she winces at the taste.

[He seems to recognize the Not a Coffee Fan face, and laughs.]

Yeah, that's brewed the strong way, too. Not so much for beginners, but I appreciate the effort.

[He offers her the serum, wrapped up in a paisley handkerchief.]

Here you go. Do you need help?

Something like that. [She rolls up her sleeve, looking at the needle.] Do you want to look or...?

[...and also a little ironic because zombie apocalypse.]

[He'd rather watch just to be sure of what he's doing, in case something happens and she can't do it herself, but he's not going to fault her for not wanting him to.]

[Buying a copy of a book about zombies on the day the zombie apocalypse happened is very ironic indeed.]

Alright... Here it goes.

[She'll just roll up her sleeve and inject it into her arm. She winces a little but it's not too bad. Probably.]

[He doesn't flinch, or stare too closely, but he takes mental note of where she sticks the needle and how fast she presses the plunger.]

Don't worry about the needle, I'll get rid of it for you.

[He leans against the table, then puts his hand on the book and slides it over to her.]

If you like King, you should read these - You don't have to worry about translation, the written word works pretty much the same way as speaking.

[Yurika slams the door open and marches in without a greeting.]

[Congratulations, Yurika, he almost spills his coffee.]

What else am I supposed to think? First there were these!

[She drops an unopened box of dental dams onto the conference table.]

Not to mention whoever's idea it was to bring Mr. Masochist in here, I don't even know what his problem is. And everyone keeps making comments about these uniforms! I personally don't think they're all that bad, they just look like pilot uniforms to me without the metal guard pieces, but your company dressed a bunch of unconscious people up like this for no apparent reason. Some of us aren't even legal, and that is disgusting. So I'm lodging a complaint!

...Not that it does any good in a murder exercise, but it's the principle of the thing!

[He puts down the coffee cup when she slams the box of dental dams onto the table, and sits up straighter.

First of all, I'm going on the record and saying that we had no idea that the Benefactors were giving you guys those things - though it doesn't hurt to be safe.

Second of all, we were not the ones who changed your clothes, and the cameras were definitely not live then. The first time we saw any of you you were already dressed. The ship is pretty much run by robots who do the cooking and the cleaning and the repairs, so I'd guess they were responsible. J and I have not and do not want to see any of you in your undies.

[Yurika takes all this in and then gives a long, deflating sigh.]

At least there's that. I guess it would be helpful if they were giving these things to people who actually needed them. They also gave me a stack of my own paperwork. I guess it must have been on me when I showed up here and they were tired of looking at it.
